The La Liga overseas match between Barcelona and Huang Qian was cancelled! Ceferin: The league should be played locally

On October 23, La Liga officially announced that the league match between Villarreal and Barcelona originally scheduled to be held on December 21 in Miami, USA, was cancelled. UEFA president Ceferin said the league should be played locally.

The official statement attributed the cancellation to "the uncertainty that has arisen in Spain over the past few weeks" and "deeply regrets" this, calling this "a historic and unparalleled opportunity for the international expansion of Spanish football." The statement emphasized that the project "fully complies with all federation regulations and does not affect the integrity of the competition" and believed that giving up such overseas games would "limit the club's investment and competitiveness" and is not conducive to the competition of Spanish football on a global scale.

Event promoter Relevent also issued a statement, saying that it had informed La Liga that it needed to "postpone" the game on the grounds that "given the current uncertainty in Spain, there is insufficient time to properly execute an event of this scale" and "it would also be irresponsible to start ticket sales without a confirmed game."

Previously, UEFA had "reluctantly" approved this game and a Serie A game in Australia, but chairman Ceferin emphasized that the league should be played locally. The decision sparked huge controversy in Spain, with players from all La Liga teams protesting collectively by standing still for 15 seconds at the start of the game last weekend. It is understood that the game may be played at Villarreal's home court.
