Barcelona young player talks about Yamal s birthday party storm: We think this is normal

Recently, Barcelona's young central defender, Kubasi, expressed his views on the controversy caused by his teammate Lamin Yamal's birthday party, and he believed that the outside world was overreacting.

18-year-old Yamal faces legal charges for allegedly hiring dwarf artists to perform entertainment at his adult ceremony. Spanish law expressly prohibits such acts that may constitute discrimination. However, Barcelona club president Laporta expressed disagreement on this, saying he did not see the problem and joked that the only regret was that he failed to attend the party.

Several Barcelona teammates, including Kubasi, attended Yamal's birthday party. Kubasi is the same age as Yamal and is from Lamacia's youth training. In an interview with the media, Kubasi downplayed the attention of the incident: "You media talked about Yamal's birthday party more times than we discussed in our locker room. We thought this was normal. We were all celebrating his coming-of-age ceremony on site and were happy for him. I was dressed more formally, wearing a suit and ties, and acting quieter."

This controversy has also triggered a chain reaction recently. A local mural in Barcelona depicting Yamal was deliberately destroyed and covered with graffiti with a cartoon dwarf image from Snow White and the Seven Dwarves, which is obviously an allusion to the party event. Currently, the creators of the mural have restored it.

Despite the constant party storm, Barcelona's pre-season preparations were not affected. The team started pre-season training on July 13, just hours after the Yamal party ended. All the players who attended the party returned to the team on time, successfully starting the preparations for the 2025-26 season.

Kubasi also talked about Yamal's ability on the court in the interview. The young central defender who has also just completed the Spanish university entrance exam admitted: "Defending him in training is more difficult than passing the 'college entrance exam'." Yamal and Kubasi, two 18-year-old Lamacia youth training graduates, have now become key players under Barcelona coach Hansi Flick, and are regarded as the world's top young talents in their respective positions.
