2025 National Frisbee Charity Walk Enters Urumqi

More than 40 physical education teachers, Frisbee club staff and Frisbee enthusiasts from primary and secondary schools in Urumqi gathered together to participate in a comprehensive public welfare promotion event covering coach training, athlete improvement, and special group experience, injecting new momentum into the development of Xinjiang Frisbee sports.

This charity trip closely follows the training of coaches and accurately meets the development needs of Xinjiang Frisbee sports.

As a low-threshold, highly social team sport, Frisbee is developing rapidly in Xinjiang. As early as more than ten years ago, Frisbee sports appeared in the Altay region. In 2022, Urumqi ushered in a Frisbee craze. The first Frisbee club "LAFCLUB" attracted more than 1,600 members in less than a year after its establishment. Today, there are 8 Frisbee clubs in Urumqi, with more than 10,000 people participating in training and competitions. Among them, "post-95s" and "post-00s" account for a prominent proportion. Male and female participants are evenly distributed. Urumqi Olympic Sports Center and other venues are popular for reservations all year round, making it a new fitness trend for urban youth.

Frisbee sports are highly favored for its equality and safety. The mixed competition rules of men and women, low-intensity physical confrontation and flexible rotation mechanism allow high school students aged 16 or 17 to young people in their 30s or 36 to participate. Since 2022, Xinjiang has held four consecutive Frisbee Open Championships. Urumqi has become the core area of ​​Frisbee sports in Xinjiang with its leading sports level. Local university clubs and Xinjiang Frisbee teams have competed in national competitions many times. In 2023 and 2024, they ranked among the top 16 of the national championships. This year, the Xinjiang Ultimate Frisbee Club won third place in the Xining Station of the National Frisbee League, setting the best record of Xinjiang teams in national competitions.

Xue Zhixing, deputy secretary-general of the National Frisbee Sports Promotion Committee, said that Urumqi, as a benchmark city for the development of Frisbee sports in Xinjiang, has the geographical advantage to carry out team Frisbee, accurate Frisbee throwing and dodgeball. In the future, it will promote the establishment of a long-term exchange and training mechanism, and plans to hold national events in Urumqi to help local players move to the international stage.

Huang Jie, deputy director of the Frisbee Special Committee of the Xinjiang Enterprise Sports Association, said that currently 11 universities in Xinjiang have set up Frisbee clubs, and college students are enthusiastic about participating. The next step will be to use the campus as a breakthrough to promote the popularization of Frisbee sports to primary and secondary schools and kindergartens, and expand the coverage of sports.

It is understood that the 2025 National Frisbee Charity Tour has already entered Shule County, Xinjiang, held the Silk Road Frisbee Competition and established the country's first rural Frisbee club. The holding of this Urumqi event will further improve the Xinjiang Frisbee sports promotion system and allow this emerging sport to take root in the north and south of the Tianshan Mountains.
