Lakers delayed announcement of James contract option raises questions
July 11, 2025, earlier, LeBron James chose to execute his $52.6 million player option with the Los Angeles Lakers in the 2025-26 season. However, the Lakers have not officially announced the decision.
A senior NBA executive said in an interview with Hoops Wire that the matter was "very strange".
The senior official said: "Yes, usually when a star player like LeBron chooses the option to execute a contract, the team will announce the news immediately. I think it's very strange. Something must have happened behind it. Although the likelihood of LeBron being traded is very low because his salary is too high.
