The top three rankings in 2022 have been renewed in advance, and no one in the same class has reached the same class.

July 10, 2025, earlier today, Chet Homegren and the Thunder reached an early contract renewal, which means that all the top three rookies in 2022 were renewed in advance.

Paul Benkairo (5 years, 239 million in advance renewal, up to $287 million), Homgren (5 years, up to $250 million in advance renewal), Jabbarri Smith Jr. (5 years, 122 million in advance renewal).

Since the salary cap is expected to grow only 7% in the 2026-27 season, and previously believed that the maximum growth of 10% could be guaranteed, teams are cautious about signing contracts that exceed the salary cap growth. (Most contract gains will be based on an 8% pay raise, a percentage that is now exceeding the expected salary cap increase.)

This has affected the renewal of rookie standard contracts for 2022 draft players and negotiations with restricted free agents this summer.

This also makes no one of the 2022 rookies reach an early renewal except for the above three people. It is reported that No. 12 Show Jaylen Williams may reach an early contract renewal with the Thunder.
