Only sign a contract with a basic salary! The Celtics sign up again and win the veteran forward

Basketball

NBA news came today that the Boston Celtics signed again, and they gave a basic salary contract to sign forward Chris Boucher for $3.3 million in one year.

Boucher's NBA career is quite bumpy. He was an NBA undraft and first joined the Golden State Warriors in the 2017-18 season, but he spent a lot of time playing in the NBA Development League. After joining the Toronto Raptors in the 2018-19 season, Boucher gradually had some playing time and performance opportunities.

In the 2020-21 season, Boucher completely gained a foothold with the Raptors, played 60 regular season games, started 14 games, and averaged 13.6 points, 6.7 rebounds and 1.1 assists per 24 minutes, with a three-point shooting percentage of 38.3%. At the same time, Boucher is also the main rotation player of the Canadian men's basketball team.

But Boucher has his own problems. He is too thin and his ability to fight is average, so his defensive quality is naturally not good. In the NBA, once there is a defensive gap, it will be difficult to gain the trust of the team. If the Raptors want to become a playoff-level team again, they won't let Boucher play a very important role.

In the past two seasons, Boucher has been a substitute for the Raptors and is an ordinary rotation player. Last season, Boucher averaged 10 points and 4.5 rebounds per game with the Raptors, but he couldn't get a bigger contract and he was already 32 years old.

Celtics enter a transitional stage next season. Their core forward Tatum is reimbursed due to injury, and veteran center Horford has also left the team, and not only inside players are needed. Boucher only has $3.3 million per year, which is suitable as a player in a transitional stage.
