After being selected for the NBA All-A-Level Third Team, Cad Cunningham has 45 million reasons to be excited about his future with the Pistons.

Detroit Pistons guard Cad Cunningham adds another noteworthy achievement. Cunningham performed well in the All-Star Game in 2024-25 and was selected to the third team of the NBA All-Series. The achievement will bring huge financial benefits to the team's point guard as his contract salary will increase from $224 million to $269 million.

23-year-old Cunningham's outstanding performance in his fourth season proved his value in the selection. He averaged 26.1 points, 9.1 assists and 6.1 rebounds per game in the regular season, setting a career high. Such an outstanding performance helped the Pistons advance to the playoffs for the first time since 2019.

Cunningham was selected for the NBA All-A-Level Third Team along with Tyres Halliburton of the Indiana Pacers, James Harden of the Los Angeles Clippers, Carl Anthony Towns of the New York Knicks and Jaylen Williams of the Oklahoma City. The first teams include Giannis Antetokounmpo of the Milwaukee Bucks, Shea Gilgers-Alexander of Oklahoma City, Jason Tatum of the Boston Celtics, Donovan Mitchell of the Cleveland Cavaliers and Nikola Jokic of the Denver Nuggets. The second team includes Anthony Edwards of the Minnesota Timberwolves, Jaylen Brunson of the New York Knicks, LeBron James of the Los Angeles Lakers, Stephen Curry of the Golden State Warriors and Evan Mobri of the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Cunningham signed his rookie contract extension last offseason. The contract is worth $224 million for five years. The contract will add an additional $45 million in the NBA All-Squad bonus.

After the team's point guard was selected into the NBA's All-NBA team, he joined the Pistons and became a historic member. Forward Blake Griffin was the last player to win the Detroit Pistons in the 2018-19 season.

Financial Impact on the Pistons

This NBA All-Squad bonus will have an impact on the Detroit Pistons' cap space. Prior to the awards, the Pistons entered the NBA offseason with about $27 million in cap space. Now, the Pistons will have about $19 million to improve the roster. The

NBA free agent market will open on July 6, and the Pistons need to make many decisions under this salary cap. The Detroit Pistons have many veterans coming into the unrestricted free agent market, such as Malik Beasley, Tim Hardaway Jr., Dennis Schroeder and Paul Reed. Management will need to make some big decisions about which free agents are what they want to stay. Another priority that management needs to weigh is Jaylen Durham and Jayden Ivey's contract. Both players are now eligible to renew their rookie contracts this offseason.

Avey was playing his best season of his career before suffering a severe leg injury reimbursed in January. The Pistons' starting guard averaged 17.6 points per game, shooting 46% from the field and 41% from three-pointers. Ivey played only 30 regular season games, but he still showed dazzling potential as the core of Detroit's future.

Durham performed well in the second half of the Pistons and made significant progress. The 21-year-old center averaged 11.8 points and 10.3 rebounds per game, and made a significant leap on the defensive end as one of Detroit's main basket protectors.

Pistons' basketball operations president Trajan Langdon briefly suggested that management may also be actively involved in the trading market. As a young team with developing players, the Pistons have the option to be patient with some lineup adjustments. With the change in the Eastern Conference landscape, with its abundant resources, the Pistons will become one of the most worthy teams to watch in the offseason.
