Congratulations! Durant won the "Magic" Johnson Award for the second time, competing with Curry Lillard Bathir
On May 15, the Suns official posted a poster to congratulate Durant on becoming the winner of the 2024-25 season "Magician" Johnson Award. The award is presented annually by the Professional Basketball Writers Association (PBWA) to NBA players who perform well on the court and “demonstrate their spirit of cooperation and demeanor when dealing with the media and fans.”
Durant won the award for the first time in the 2010-11 season (the fourth season with the Thunder). Now he is the fourth two-time winner, tied with Stephen Curry (2016, 2024), Damian Lillard (2017, 2020) and Sean Bathir (2007, 2013). Howard Baker, chairman of the Association, said: "We are very happy to recognize KD again. Kevin has long been one of the most thoughtful and accessible stars in the NBA. He always takes time to interview reporters, whether it is formal record interviews or informal chats, never shy away from any topic. He is both keen on analyzing tactical details and is willing to explore the macro issues facing the league. The love for basketball is always beyond words. In addition, the association members are particularly grateful for his public advocacy of reopening the player locker room after the pandemic, and recognize that such contact is crucial to building trust and rapport between players and journalists. "Durant, 36, was selected for the All-Star for the 15th time in the 2024-25 season, averaging 26.6 points, 6.0 rebounds and 4.2 assists per game.
Cavaliers' Mitchell ranked second in the vote, with other final candidates including Miami Heat's Adebayo, Pacers' Halliburton and Warriors' Green. The award has been awarded every year since 2001.
