October 20th, salary expert Keith Smith wrote an article analyzing the impact of two-way contract rules on the NBA in recent years.

The article mentioned that two-way contracts have caused many non-main veterans to lose the opportunity to stay in the NBA. Most teams would rather keep their roster empty or leave opportunities to young people (players who have played in the NBA for more than three years cannot sign two-way contracts). Coupled with the widespread use of Ex-9 and Ex-10 contracts, teams no longer provide partially guaranteed contracts for players participating in training camps, and the pace of league upgrading has further accelerated.

An agent said: "If it is not necessary, there is no reason to spend money. In order to avoid being punished by the collective bargaining agreement, no one is willing to spend even one dollar more in salary. So now many free agents will not wait anymore, and they go to play overseas in droves. Why should we experience playing in the NBA, being waived, and then losing the opportunity to make money in Europe and Asia."
