Times: Newcastle quotes for Trafford, Joao Pedro and Ilanga were rejected

Football

June 27 The Times reported that Newcastle United's offer for James Trafford and Joao Pedro was rejected.

The Times learned that Newcastle offered Burnley £25 million last weekend to buy 22-year-old goalkeeper Trafford, and earlier this week to offer Brighton £50 million to buy striker Pedro. In addition, the club's offer to Nottingham Forest's Swedish winger Anthony Ilanga was also rejected.

Burnley insists on valuing Trafford of more than £30 million and is waiting for a new round of quotes. Newcastle has been chasing the former England U21 national goal for more than 12 months and failed to close the deal last summer due to profit and sustainability rules (PSR) restrictions. It is reported that the Magpie will raise its offer. The player who completed 29 clean sheets this season is Newcastle's number one goal this summer. However, there is still a gap in transfer fees between the two sides. This player, who is optimistic about becoming England's long-term goalkeeper in the future, is eager to join Newcastle.

As returning to the Champions League next season, Newcastle and coach Eddie Howe hope to increase the forward firepower. This prompted the club to pursue Pedro, who was unable to sign from Watford three years ago. They turned to sign Isaac at that time. The 23-year-old Pedro is very attractive in being competent as a center and winger, but the £50 million offer at the beginning of this week was also rejected by Brighton. It remains to be seen whether Newcastle will raise the offer.

Due to concerns about PSR violation, Newcastle has not signed first-team big-name players for three consecutive transfer windows. At the end of June last year, they had to sell Elliott Anderson to Nottingham Forest for a total of £70 million and Yankuba Mint to Brighton to avoid the risk of being deducted 10 points.

With CEO Darren Eals and sports director Paul Mitchell leaving at the end of this month, coach Eddie Howe and deputy recruiting director Andy Howe are leading the club's summer recruitment plan.
