Scholes talks about Wenger s previous remarks: I don t think he likes Tottenham and Manchester United very much

May 22 According to the Daily Mail, Scholes talked about Wenger's previous remarks in an interview.

Scholes teased Wenger that he did not like Manchester United and Tottenham, and opposed them qualifying for the Champions League through the UEFA Cup. Currently, these two Premier League teams rank 16th and 17th respectively, losing 39 games in the league in total. However, under UEFA's regulations, winning the UEFA Cup can be qualified to compete in the top European competitions, Wenger opposed this, believing that this provision was unreasonable.

Former Manchester United player Ferdinand called Manchester United and Tottenham the "two worst teams possible" to reach the UEFA Cup final. Scholes said in an interview with TNT Sports: "I don't think Wenger likes Manchester United and Tottenham. There may be eight teams in the Premier League, and Manchester United qualifies for the FA Cup this year, but in recent weeks, these teams have set their goals for the UEFA Cup, and they have given some players a break before the game."

Former Tottenham player and coach Glenn Hodder added: "The Premier League is a very strong and competitive league. Manchester United and Tottenham were able to reach the finals, but their performance was disappointing. The two teams lost a total of 39 games in the league, which is incredible."

In 2014, UEFA changed the rules and allowed the UEFA champion to advance to the Champions League directly. But earlier this month, Wenger thought the policy was "unreasonable".

In response, Wenger said: "No, they should automatically qualify for the UEFA Cup, but they may not necessarily enter the Champions League, especially when there are already five teams in the Premier League that can advance. I think this is a question that UEFA needs to reconsider."

Since the 2009-10 Europa League, no team below 12 has reached the final or won the championship. Sevilla won the UEFA Cup championship in 2023 with No. 12 in La Liga, while Fulham reached the final with No. 12 in the Premier League in the 2009-10 season, eventually losing to Atletico Madrid. United won the UEFA Cup in their first season in 2018, and qualified for the Champions League, although they were only ranked 6th in the league.
