Official announcement! UEFA revised the UEFA Champions League registration rules, Premier League giants benefited collectively

On September 11 local time, according to UEFA official news, Atletico Madrid's home metropolitan stadium will hold the 2027 Champions League final. This is also the second time that Wanda Newcomer will hold the Champions League final in 8 years. The last time the stadium hosted the Champions League final was in 2019, when Liverpool defeated Tottenham 2-0 and staged a Premier League civil war.

This time, the Champions League final has moved to Wanda's new metropolis again, which seems to indicate that the Premier League teams will have a good prospect for the game. At the same time, UEFA has made major adjustments to the roster rules of participating teams before the start of the Champions League in the new season, and Premier League stars who were previously excluded from the roster are expected to benefit from this.

Next week, the Champions League will begin, with a total of six Premier League teams participating in the competition this season, setting a record high. Due to the increase in points in the Premier League European Championship, the top five teams have all qualified for the competition through the domestic league rankings. This season, Liverpool, Arsenal, Manchester City, Chelsea and Newcastle United have joined hands with UEFA Cup champion Tottenham Hotspur to play together.

Arsenal hopes to go further this season and strive for the finals. They will challenge Spanish team Athletic Bilbao away in the first round. World champion Chelsea will face Bayern Munich led by Harry Kane at Allianz Stadium, while Tottenham will welcome Villarreal at Tottenham Stadium.

All of these teams - including Champions League matches Manchester City, Liverpool, Newcastle, Europa League matches Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest, and Europa League matches Crystal Palace - are now allowed to make an adjustment to the submitted 25-man roster in the group stage. UEFA issued a statement on Thursday saying: "The Executive Committee approved the amendment to the UEFA Men's Club Tournament Rules for the 2025/26 season, allowing for the replacement of up to one outfield player in the league stage (as of the sixth match day). "The adjustment is intended to ensure that the team's roster is not unfairly reduced due to injuries, while protecting players from additional burdens."

The sixth match day is the last round of the UEFA League phase, while the Champions League and the UEFA Cup will play the seventh and eighth rounds in the New Year.

The specific criteria for "long-term injury or illness" are not yet clear, but the new regulations may allow Chelsea to replace Liam Drapp, who was injured in a hamstring, on the Champions League roster. New aid Facundo Buonanot is expected to be selected, and he has previously expressed disappointment on the list of unsuccessful candidates. Other high-profile players who failed to make their respective Champions League rosters include Liverpool's Chiesa, Tottenham's Terr, and Arsenal striker Jesus, who is currently in recovery.
