Nottingham Forest boss argued with the coach and posted another post to celebrate, the team was qualified for the European competition for the first time in 30 years

May 12th Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis changed his attitude after the team locked in European qualifications. He had previously blatantly accused coach Nuno after the game.

The Forest's Champions League hopes were hit hard in a 2-2 draw with Leicester City on Sunday. The team, which has been in the top three for a long time this season, has recently fallen to seventh place, but the draw still ensures that they qualify for European competition for the first time since 1994.

In early April, the Forests were also regarded as a strong contender for Champions League qualification, but their performance of only one win in the last six games put them in a desperate situation. Although Chris Wood's 20th goal this season once gave the team a glimpse of victory, Bunanot's draw allowed Forests to get only one point. After the final whistle, an angry Marinakis broke out in a fierce dispute with Nuno, and the scene showed the Greek businessman (who was also the owner of Olympiacos) waving his arms excitedly. Hours after the conflict, Marinakis issued an Instagram statement to celebrate this historic breakthrough, saying that his misconduct was caused by anger at the medical team's misjudgment of Avoniyi's injury: "Today is a day worth celebrating! Nottingham Forest returns to the European stage for the first time in 30 years, which fulfills my commitment to the fans when I upgrade! There are two rounds left in the Premier League, and we must stick to our beliefs until the last moment. We are proud of Nuno and the whole team, and should celebrate the achievements of this season together. Everyone - the coaching staff, the players, the fans, and me - is frustrated by Avoniyi's injury, which is exactly the emotion that reflects our love for the club."

Commentator Gary Neville denounced this behavior : "The behavior of the Forest boss is shameful! Nuno should go to negotiate the termination tonight."

In response, Nuno explained at the press conference: "The problem stems from the fact that we were forced to beat one less person in the first 10 minutes of the final game. Avoniyi was unable to persist due to severe pain. This was caused by the miscommunication between the medical department and the coaching staff. The anger of 30,000 people at the scene, including me is understandable."

When asked about Neville's remarks, he responded tactfully: "I respect Neville. He took over my teaching position in Valencia and knew the difficulties of coaching. Now I am more concerned about how to help these young people who do their best. You see, they were exhausted at the end of the game."

In order to ensure that it does not violate UEFA's regulations that "the same owner cannot control two clubs in the same game", Marinakis has recently handed over the daily management rights of the Forest team. At present, Olympiacos and Forests still have the theoretical possibility of entering the Champions League together, but the latter has little hope. It is worth mentioning that this is not the first time Marinakis has entered the field. After losing to Liverpool in 2024, he has questioned the referee team face to face.
