Morata s transfer dilemma: Galatasaray insists on staying, Como is eager to seek talent

Football

The future of Spanish striker Alvaro Morata is once again in controversy. Although he has reached a franchise agreement with Serie A team Cuomo, Morata, who currently plays for Turkish giant Galatasaray, has encountered the club's "detention", which has made his transfer journey full of thorns.

Contract clauses become the biggest obstacle

According to Spanish media reports, Morata not only signed a preliminary contract with Como, but also received recognition that ownership belongs to AC Milan. However, the problem lies in his current status as a loan for Galatasaray. In February 2025, Morata was loaned to Galatasaray from AC Milan for one year and was accompanied by a mandatory buyout clause of about 8 million to 9 million euros. The contract is valid until January 2026, and Galatasaray has the right to activate a six-month priority renewal right.

In the face of Cuomo's acquisition request, Galatasaray made a termination fee of up to 10 million euros, far exceeding the 6 million euros that the Italian club is willing to pay. The deal was at a deadlock due to the tough stance of the Turkish Super League team.

The reason why Galatasaray firmly tried to retain Morata is mainly because the team's lack of front line strength. Icardi, an important scorer in the team, was absent due to injury for a long time, and head coach Okan Brooke regarded Morata as his ideal partner for new player Victor Osmeen. So, as the new season is about to begin, Galatasaray is unwilling to lose a seasoned striker like Morata.

Morata himself is eager to transfer to Cuomo, where he will become a core member of the reconstruction plan of head coach Fabregas. The 1992-born striker has extensive experience in European competitions and is known for his ability to adapt to Serie A – he has proved his strength at Juventus many times.

If Galatasaray continues to maintain his tough attitude, it may not only disrupt Como's new season planning, but also lead to Morata's career at risk of being "shelfed", especially at a critical moment when he is struggling to be selected for the Spanish national team for the 2026 World Cup.

Morata is ready for a new chapter in her career, but Galatasaray seems to have the final say. Will one party make a compromise in the next few days? Or will this transfer storm become one of the most eye-catching plots in the summer transfer window of 2025?
