Kimmich: Germany are on the right path; spoke to Wirtz, he needs to be more patient
Hupu reported on October 11 that German newspaper Die Welt had an exclusive interview with Bayern midfielder Kimmich.
[Gossip Board] Kimmich: I pray for a good performance in every Dortmund/French Eagle game, which represents Germany well
One of the most emotional moments in your career seems to be your performance after being eliminated in the group stage of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. Speaking with tears in your eyes at the time, you were afraid of falling into a hole and that this fiasco would forever be associated with you. Are you less stressed now?
Kimmich: For me, playing for the German team is the greatest joy. But it's a painful experience when you can't play a game; especially because it was the second time in a row that we had been knocked out of the World Cup group stage.
Over the years, I've learned to evaluate things better and deal with successes and failures better. I, for one, no longer let my happiness be so dependent on it.
However, the inner drive to succeed is there every day: in training, in games, in tournaments. But again: we have to qualify for the World Cup first.
As captain, do you embody this motivation? Will you take the initiative to solve problems on the team?
Communication exists. I also try to keep in touch with my teammates between practices because even if we don’t see each other, in the end we are always a team.
So you only call occasionally?
It is important to me to keep in touch. Sometimes, a message is enough, even though one of the parties might ask, "What does he want me to do now?" (laughs).
In our respective clubs, we may be competitors, but we need a strong sense of unity. Because that can be a real advantage when a team really needs unity.
Will you meet with the national team coach (who, like you, lives in Munich) between training sessions?
Of course, we will communicate regularly. As I mentioned, it is crucial that the team internalizes and implements the coach's ideas and principles, and communication between the national team players is equally important. As captain, I was one of his contacts.
Have you also contacted Florian Wirtz? Things haven't been going too well for him at Liverpool so far.
I contacted him. But he had absolutely no reason to doubt himself. Florian has the perfect blend of quality and mentality that will always lead to you becoming a top player in the long run.
He must remain patient and, of course, rely on his team. In this camp, I saw again what he's capable of and how much he can rely on his strengths.
You have had a successful few weeks at Bayern this season. What can the national team learn from Bayern?
I've mentioned what's important to a team - and I believe we're on the right path. However, this comparison is somewhat inappropriate.
For example, if Harry Kane and Michael Olise are injured, Bayern's playing style will also change. The same is true for the national team, when key players are unavailable, even though there may be more players available to choose from.
However, it is worth noting that Bayern has always adhered to a system, while the national team is more experimental. Do you wish the German team could be more stable?
I am sure and know that the coach is very talented in this area.
