You led Pisa to the Serie B runner-up last season and successfully promoted, but you chose to resign

I want to thank everyone in Palermo and Pisa, I have left wonderful memories there and there are outstanding fans there. I was so happy to talk about them, my players gave me a lot, but I realized something wasn't right, so the club and I made this decision together. I didn’t choose between Pisa and Palermo, but after breaking up with Pisa, I chose Palermo, which must be clarified.

When you arrived in Palermo yesterday (Thursday), 2,000 Palermo fans welcomed you in the square

I could have continued to wait and see, but I was waiting for Palermo and hoped to receive this call. I've known Gardini and Osti for a long time, so there's no need to say anything more. I felt passionate when Palermo sent me an invitation. What happened yesterday left me sleeping all night and even though I haven’t achieved anything here yet, the fans welcome me so much, which gave me incredibly huge motivation.

What are your goals for next season? Does the club require you to lead the team to Serie A?

I have a huge responsibility to bring this team back to where I should be. I can guarantee that we will do our best. upgrade? I don't want to say this word, but we have a dream. We are ready and we have a strong team and enthusiastic fans. It will be more difficult for me than last season because I started from scratch a year ago when I first took office, and now we are facing the Champions League level fans, but I am not afraid of anything. We are lucky to be able to play in front of 40,000 fans at home and have such an excellent club.

What do you have to do with the players? Does Palermo need to introduce a lot of new players this summer?

The players know that under my coach, if I don’t run actively, I won’t play, and I won’t consider anyone’s fame. I think Palermo's strength is already very strong, and we were the favorites to upgrade last season. I don't think there is much change needed, just give these players confidence. We have also considered what aspects of making necessary improvements.

Who did you call to congratulate you after taking office?

When Gattuso became the head coach of the national team, we had a conversation. I'm so happy because we've experienced so many victories together and we congratulate each other. I hope Italy can advance to the World Cup, and he is fully capable of doing that. I always keep in touch with Taeby, I understand his thoughts, and he was one of the first people to call to congratulate me. And Carozieri, Mikoli, and Bifi also called me.

Now you are here in Palermo, to southern Italy

I used to play football as Palermo's opponent, I scored a lot of goals, and now I have to "compensate". Of course I have lost, and I remember one time I lost 0-2 to Palermo in San Siro. As a player, I have been playing in northern Italy, although I had the opportunity to come to the south at the end of my career. And as a coach, I found that southern Italy was great, and I lived very happily in places like Benevento, Salerno, Reggio Calabria and other places. I love the beach and my family is happy in these places.
