October 11th FIFA launched disciplinary review procedures against Equatorial Guinea on Friday. The national team did not go to the away field to participate in the World Cup qualifiers as scheduled. This is the latest incident in Equatorial Guinea's chaos.

FIFA announced that its disciplinary committee will investigate the reason why the Equatorial Guinea men's football team did not travel to Malawi as scheduled to participate in the World Cup preliminaries. Both teams had the opportunity to advance to the play-offs by finishing second in the group behind Tunisia, the group leader.

In November last year, FIFA ruled that Equatorial Guinea veteran Emilio Nsue was not eligible to represent the national team. After that, Equatorial Guinea was punished and lost 0-3 in the first two games. Nsue scored goals in the 1-0 victories against Namibia and Liberia.

Equatorial Guinea’s official Instagram account posted that the players voted to abandon the trip because the arrangement that required them to fly at night and arrive in Lilongge on the morning of the game was endangering their health.

The Equatorial Guinea Football Association has suspended coach Juan Micha over the incident and pointed out on his Instagram account that the actions of the players and coaches were disrespectful to the people of Equatorial Guinea.

The Malawi Football Association only issued a statement saying that the game was canceled due to unforeseen travel difficulties encountered by the visiting team.

As usual, FIFA will impose penalties on teams that fail to fulfill their World Cup qualifying schedule.

The football association of a team that does not compete according to the schedule may also be required to pay relevant fees and compensation to its opponents and FIFA.

Equatorial Guinea will complete its qualifying group schedule on Monday against Liberia at home.
