The Timberwolves No. 6 pick will be in the Japanese league, and his career is in a huge crisis
According to European basketball media BasketNews reporter Donatas Urbanas, the 6th pick in the first round of the 2019 NBA Draft, Jarrett Culver is about to travel to Japan to continue his career. Currently, Culver has entered the in-depth negotiation stage with the Sendai 89ers in the Japanese B League. The two sides are about to reach an agreement. Culver is also likely to appear in the overseas league for the first time next season.
Culver was born in February 1998 and is 26 years old, 198cm tall and weighs 88kg. He is a wing player from Texas Tech in the 2019 NBA Draft. Although the draft pick is quite high, Culver's performance in the NBA has always been less than ideal. Whether it was the Timberwolves who selected him or the later Memphis Grizzlies and Atlanta Hawks, his performance has never been able to meet everyone's expectations, and his performance is also very disappointing. Therefore, he has no way to appear in the NBA field in these two seasons, and has to stay in the NBA Development League field. Last season, Culver played for the Houston Rockets' NBA Development League team, Rio Grand Canyon Vipers, and his performance was quite highlighted. However, perhaps because he is not very satisfied with his role in the team, Culver switched to the Orlando Magic's NBA Development League subordinate team Osiola Magic this season, and his performance also declined sharply.
In the NBA Development League regular season this season, Culver played a total of 49 games, averaging 28.3 minutes per game, averaging 13.5 points, 5.4 rebounds, 2.4 assists, 1 steal, 0.6 blocks, and 1.7 turnovers and 1.7 fouls. His shooting percentage was 44.1%, a three-point shooting percentage of 32.7%, and a free throw shooting percentage of 66.3%. In the NBA Development League playoffs this season, Culver made a total of 5 appearances, averaging 23 minutes of playing time, averaging 7.4 points, 3.6 rebounds, 1.8 assists, 1.2 steals, and 0.2 blocks, as well as 0.6 turnovers and 2.6 fouls, shooting percentage of 25%, three-point shooting percentage of 25%, and free throw shooting percentage of 88.9%. Although Culver is a player with excellent physical talent and athletic ability, he has not made any substantial progress or improvement in these seasons. His performance has always been very struggling. His stability in outside shooting has always been unsatisfactory, and he has no way to fully utilize his advantages in physical talent and athletic ability on the defensive end. Culver's overall performance this season is even more disappointing, which is an important factor that he cannot get more attention from NBA teams. It is normal to leave the NBA Development League, but it is really helpless to have Culver's first stop in the overseas league. It seems that his market conditions are so bad.
