The media offers a potential trading plan for 4 for 2! The Timberwolves can pursue Morant and create a super backcourt championship
Recently, Eddie Bitar, a columnist of the famous sports media Fadeaway world, proposed that the Minnesota Timberwolves can plan a big deal with the goal of winning superstar point guard Ja Morant and creating a super backcourt combination to strive for the championship in the new season.
In the just-concluded 24-25 NBA season, the Timberwolves performed well and made it to the Western Conference Finals. Anthony Edwards, the leading star, has indeed played strong, and averaged 25.3 points, 7.8 rebounds and 5.5 assists per game in the playoffs, becoming the league's future star.
But facing the stronger and more balanced Oklahoma City Thunder, the Timberwolves still lost. The reason is that the team lacks a star player who can give Edwards strong support from the outside. At critical moments, Edwards often shoulders the banner of offense alone, and the pressure is huge.
Although forward Naz Reed performed well in the regular season, his form was fluctuating in the playoffs and was still facing the choice of a $15,022,464 player option during the offseason. Although Jaden McDaniels has a strong defense, but lacks offensive end, making it difficult to provide the team with stable firepower at critical moments of offense. On the other hand, the Memphis Grizzlies have experienced a twists and turns in the season and may be re-adjusting the lineup.
So, Bitar gave the following potential trading plan:
Timberwolves: Get Ja Morant and John Conchar;
Grizzlies: Get Jaden McDaniels, Naz Reed (signed first and then exchange), and No. 17 and No. 31 picks in 2025;
At present, this is just a trading idea proposed by the media. Whether it can be achieved in the end depends on the considerations of the management of the two teams.
From the author's perspective, if the Timberwolves pursue Morant, internal reasons become very critical. Although Edwards is definitely a strong offense, the team relies too much on him to score. Morant's arrival can greatly enrich the team's offensive system. He has super breakthrough ability, can easily tear open the opponent's defense line to create opportunities for his teammates, and can also score points by himself. In the backcourt with Edwards, the two of them scored very intimidatingly, with more offensive choices, and the opponent's defense difficulty rose sharply. Morant is full of passion on the court, which can drive the morale of the team and make the Timberwolves' game more combat-effective.
The former Warriors dynasty was successful, and it was based on the star backcourt combination of the Splash Brothers, and the Timberwolves also had the chance to replicate.
From external factors, the NBA is now fierce competition, and all teams are trying their best to improve their strength. There are many powerful Western Conference players, and if the Timberwolves want to go further in the playoffs, they must make changes. Getting Morant can instantly make the Timberwolves a favorite to compete for the championship, attract more fans' attention, and enhance the team's commercial value.
Look at the Grizzlies again. After going through the ups and downs of the season, reconstruction may be a good choice. McDaniels' defensive ability and Reed's scoring ability will help the Grizzlies' future reconstruction. There are two draft picks that allow the Grizzlies to select potential newcomers, and the team's lineup thickness will be better. If Morant is really sent away, Jialun Jackson Jr. will become the well-deserved No. 1 star, McDaniels and Reed will become his right-hand man, and their personal data will inevitably surge.
Of course, this transaction is also risky. There have been some controversial events outside the court. The Timberwolves have to consider whether this will affect the team atmosphere. It will take time for players to integrate into the new team system. But if the transaction can be successful, it may have a huge impact on the two teams and the entire Western Conference structure. Fans are also waiting to see if such a big deal will happen?
