Kidd talks about Flag: He is much less stressful in playing in the Mavericks, and Irving Clay Davis can help him

On May 18, Mavericks coach Kidd talked about the top scorer in the show. He believed that Flag would be much less pressure if he played in the Mavericks.

Kidd admitted that he did not watch the draft draw in the whole time. He revealed that when he received a text message to Dallas that he won the top four picks and then locked in the No. 1 pick, he once thought that the news was "less than one" - he didn't expect the team to jump to the top.

"According to our trend this year, I thought that even if we don't fall to the back, we will stay at the 11th pick." Kidd said.

When the host asked whether the Mavericks planned to use the No. 1 pick to choose Duke University's Cooper Flag (a recognized number one pick popular in this draft), Kidd did not directly confirm and avoided a positive discussion of Flag. He said he wanted to "make sure he didn't get into any trouble." When the host joked that "evaluating the kid of Duke" would anger the league, the Mavericks coach smiled and responded: "We are all excited about that kid of Duke."

"I am just the head coach, but it must be said that our entire team is focusing on the choice of the No. 1 pick." Kidd said, "Although this draft is good, the name you mentioned is our focus."

If the draw results are different, Flagben may become the core of rebuilding teams such as the Jazz or the Wizards. Now he will join a championship team led by veterans such as Anthony Davis, Kyrie Irving, Klay Thompson. Kidd believes that this is an ideal environment for the No. 1 pick.

"He is only 18 years old and only turns 19 in December. We know that he is young, but he is talented and has good offense and defense." Kidd analyzed, "There are experienced veterans in the team - it is not disrespectful to say that, they are not 'dinosaurs' - like Irving, Davis, and Thompson, who are around 30, can help in his rookie season. ... I think this is an excellent situation for him." Kidd continued, "Given the team's existing player configuration, he will be under much less pressure as the No. 1 pick. If he goes to other teams, he may need to play top performance immediately. Here, he can polish his skills under low pressure, while we are still fighting for the championship."

Kidd also revealed to the host his informed process and reaction to the Luca Doncic trade in February. He recalled that when he received a call from general manager Harrison at the hotel in Cleveland, he immediately began to think about the departure of the star defender and how the addition of Davis and Christie would affect the Mavericks' tactical system.

According to Kidd, the day of the transaction was his last conversation with Doncic. As a player who has been traded unexpectedly, the Mavericks coach understands the 26-year-old Doncic's mood at this moment.

"I think he is not very happy. Judging from my experience of being traded, he may be shocked and depressed, and he is inevitably excited." Kidd said, "But I cherish the opportunity to coach Luca. He is a great person, and we all know that his talent belongs to the top of the world... I have always said publicly and privately: I wish Luca all the best. He is one of the best players in the world."
