Hard work, the video of Warriors Kumingga training before the free agent market opened was filmed
Golden State Warriors forward Jonathan Cumingga has been training hard during the offseason before he is about to become a free agent.
Recently, the Golden State Warriors lost five consecutive times to the Minnesota Timberwolves in the second round of the NBA playoffs, ending the 2024-25 season. The Warriors lacked Stephen Curry for most of the series, which gave longer playing time for rotation players like Jonathan Cumingga.
After getting Jimmy Butler in the trade, Kumingga basically did not make Steve Cole's rotation in the second half of the regular season and in the playoffs, but he performed well in the playoffs against the Timberwolves.
Kumingga is expected to become a free agent in the offseason and recently, a video posted on social media showing the young winger working hard.
According to Monte Poole of NBC Sports Bay Area Channel (from Ball Report), the Warriors are likely to renew their contract with Coominga during the offseason, rather than watching him move to other teams.
Kuminga's interesting dynamics
Jonathan Kuuminga was once considered one of the important cornerstones of Warriors basketball in the post-Stephen Curry era. As a member of the Golden State Warriors in 2022, Kumingga won the championship in his rookie season, but in the next two seasons, his performance on both offense and defense has improved.
However, due to concerns about whether he can play in the Golden State Warriors' Curry-centric system and Jimmy Butler's redundancy on the roster, whether Warriors executives view Cumingga as part of the team's future has sparked doubts.
Kuminga's performance against the Timberwolves is likely to prompt the Warriors to decide to keep him. After Curry was out, Cuminga showed his versatility and improved perimeter shooting ability against the Minnesota Timberwolves, helping the Warriors stay ahead in some games even if they ultimately failed to reverse and win.
It is not clear what the amount of Kumingga's new contract this summer is, but his relationship with the Warriors seems to be better than it was a few months ago.
