Billups calls on Nuggets to eventually retire Cameron Anthony s No. 15 jersey

Basketball

According to US sports media F/W reporter Nico Martinez, NBA legend Cameron Anthony has not yet won the honor of the jersey retirement ceremony, but former Nuggets star Chauncey Billups said he should have been recognized for a long time. In a chat with Andscape’s Mark Spears, Billups said he should have his No. 15 jersey in the rafters a few years ago because he means a lot to the team.

"They should retire his jersey the second year after Melo retired," Billups told Andscape. "When he retired, I said, 'Well, it's cool. He's done now. He won't play another game. It's time. So, for me, it's too late. As far as retired Melo's jersey is concerned, it should be a priority, because I know exactly what he means to the organization."

So far, only Syracuse has retired Melo's No. 15 jersey, but it can be proved that the Knicks and the Nuggets should give him the same posture. At least, Billups believes the Nuggets should thank Cameron for recognizing his status as one of the greatest players in the franchise’s history.

"Merlo is one of the greatest players in the team's history," Billups said. "Obviously, there were a lot of people before us who were great players. Obviously, there was Jokic coming out after all of us. But Melo is one of the best players in the franchise history. I'm still in Denver and all the fans and people I know still appreciate him. They love him.

In addition to being a Hall of Famer and a ten-time All-Star player, Anthony is considered one of the greatest scorers in modern NBA history. In 1,260 games in his career, he averaged 22.5 points, 6.2 rebounds and 2.7 assists and shot 44.7% from the field.

Although he never won the championship, Anthony did Leading the Nuggets to the Western Conference Finals, where he led Kobe to six games with the Lakers. During his tenure, he led the team to the Northwest Division twice, seven consecutive playoffs and four all-round selections.

What helped Melo's situation was that the Nuggets were in a dark place before he arrived. In the season before his debut, the team won only 17 games, and in the Western Conference playoff pattern, they were considered to be an afterthought. In the end, Carmelo stayed relatively short. Just eight years later, at his peak, he asked for a deal, sent him to the New York Knicks, and he never returned to Denver again.

Now, the Nuggets have another different superstar wearing the No. 15 jersey: Nikola Jokic. As a three-time MVP, seven-time All-Star and NBA champion, he did more for the Nuggets than Melo did, and most fans agreed that his legacy was set as the greatest player in the franchise history.

Unfortunately for Anthony, Jokic's greatness might be what hindered the Nuggets from retiring his jersey. If they did, it would force Jokic to reach a different number, although he was more worth it. According to Carmelo, Jokic wore 15 The No. 2 jersey is part of an active effort to erase his legacy, but no one can foresee how great the Joker will be. The only hope for Carmelo’s retirement jersey is probably with the Knicks, but his lack of playoff success makes it very small chances for them to really award him the honor. At this point, he may never get the honor, but his career will still be celebrated.
