Anthony Davis returns to the Los Angeles Lakers training ground with coach and Lively II this summer offseason

Basketball

Recently, the Los Angeles Lakers held a professional player selection day for Klutch Sports in Los Angeles. Dallas Mavericks players Anthony Davis and Derek Lively II and general manager Nico Harrison all participated in the event.

The event invited team executives, coaches, players, agents and more to learn about some of the smartest young prospects in the draft, held at the Lakers’ training grounds and created a rather unique environment in the mid-season Lakers and Mavericks trade.

In a video shared by X, Davis can be seen sitting with Harrison and Lively, who are looking for future players. Dallas Mavericks coach Jason Kidd was also present, and he was said to have "resentful" Harrison's trade in Luca Doncic, according to Tim Kato of DLS Sports.

This year's Klutch Sports Professionals Selection Day includes celebrities such as Carmen Maluch, Walter Clayton, Hansen Young, Raschel Fleming and Will Riley.

The teams will develop strategies for this year's NBA draft in the next month, and the draft will be held from June 25 to 26. The first round will be played on the first night and the second round will be played on the second night.

Look at Anthony Davis and the Dallas Mavericks' 2025-26 season in the future of the professional selection

For Anthony Davis and the Dallas Mavericks, the upcoming season will be a major season. After Davis was sent to Dallas in exchange for Luca Doncic in the mid-season deal last year, the team suffered a series of injuries that dashed their playoff hopes.

Most notably, Irving suffered an ACL torn, which will leave him out at the start of next season, with the latest prediction that he will return in January.

While Irving's injury eventually became the main factor in the Dallas Mavericks missing the playoffs, the team won the No. 1 pick in this year's lottery, laying the foundation for Duke's outstanding young player Cooper Flagg to join Davis and Irving's All-Star combo.

While Irving will be out at the start of the 2025-26 season, Nick Harrison made it clear that he believes the team has a chance to win the NBA championship after the Davis trade.

Nevertheless, the Mavericks still have some housework to do during the offseason. For example, Irving, who is expected to choose his player option in the next year, is due for renewal. In addition, according to reports, we can also see Daniel Gafford's deal.

Whether the Mavericks can compete with the strong teams next season, only time can tell us the answer.
