Adam Simon, head of the Heat Draft Affairs, talks about the choice of Yakujonis in detail at the press conference

Basketball

. Well, he really loves staying in the arena. Well, the coaches in Illinois talked about, you know, never having to look for him. He was always there, always training. He loves studying competition videos. Well, he will be a great student for Bam and Taylor, he will learn how to be a professional player, knowing that he only stayed at the University of Illinois for a year.

Reporter: His three-point shooting percentage this season is 32%, which is obviously not outstanding, but he shot well at the beginning of the season (40%), and later it seems that he had a forearm injury. How do you think of his skills?

Adam Simon: Well, that's a good question. He, uh, shot, uh, predicts that he will become a very good shooter in the future based on our analytical data. Uh, his shooting moves are very pure. Well, he shot a lot of difficult balls. Well, I think, you know, there are some aspects of his game that certainly needs improvement, but you look at a player who just turned 19 last month, um, you know, he was very effective, no matter where he played, wherever he played. Uh, like I said, there are some places that need improvement, but um, shooting I don't think it's a shortcoming for his game. I think that aspect will definitely get better.

Reporter: Then, there is only one problem in terms of defense. He obviously has a body advantage, but how do you predict his situation as a defender?

Adam Simon: Yes, you know, we've looked at, uh, most of these players lack the defensive skills and skills needed at the NBA level. What he has is resilience. He has a ruthless spirit. He has basketball IQ. I think when you combine these skills, I think he will be able to work hard to learn our defensive system. And I think he, uh, will be able to reach a high level of defense in our league.

Reporter: His turnover rate seems to be a bit high, but is it a good thing for a player like this, as you said, that he can see through the game, read the game, and pass these good goals in part because he dares to try and experiment, which is a good thing?

Adam Simon: Yes, uh, Cooper (Cooper, questioning the reporter), that's a good question. He, uh, does have a higher turnover count than expected, but he is using it very high and he is dealing with and adapting. We have also seen this in other players who have played college basketball for the first time from the European system. And the sample size is very small. They only played over 30 games. He has indeed been injured. Well, the mistakes are indeed high, but I think these are acceptable mistakes. I think these can be corrected. Well, they can be improved by teaching and need to learn to observe the competition. But if you watch all his videos, you will find that he made the right reading on the field. He is creating opportunities. It's part of a learning process, learning how to be a scorer - he's done that, he's a very good scorer. He can rush to the basket and is also learning to read games, which is only part of the learning process.

Reporter: Brad Underwood (Illinois coach) said at the end of the season that they also mentioned in the broadcast that this kind of kid will get better when playing with NBA players. Have you seen this? Do you understand what he means?

Adam Simon: Yes, I hope so. And he has received good and strict guidance. You know, Coach Underwood is a very good teacher and he has strict requirements on players. Well, we see the huge potential of Kas/Cass, you are talking about a player who is 6-foot-5 and 3/4 (about 1.97 meters) tall, has good athleticism but also has high IQ. So, if you combine these traits, I mean, plus his professional attitude, I don't think you can't make him a very good NBA player. I think that's why we chose him tonight.

Reporter: OK, Adam, thank you very much, sir.

Adam Simon: OK. Thank you for staying. Thank you so much.
