ESPN reporter Tim Bontemps reported that many of his sources believe that the Mavericks will at least trade Anthony Davis, if not send Kyrie Irving together. The transaction allows the Mavericks to improve their 2026 first-round pick as much as possible, and this is the only first-round pick the Mavericks will have in their hands in the next five years.

An Eastern Conference executive was asked whether the Mavericks should trade Irving and Davis, and he said: "Absolutely."

ESPN reporter Brian Windhorst said that league executives are not discussing whether the Mavericks should trade Davis this week, but whether the Mavericks can get a suitable offer.

A general manager said: "AD will be 33 years old in March. He may want an early extension contract with an annual salary of up to 70 million next summer. By then, he will be 37 years old with an annual salary of 70 million. He is a good player, but you consider this Age, such injury history, and the pressure to renew the contract will all have an impact on the transaction."

Another senior executive said: "I am 100% sure that if the Mavericks decide to trade AD, they will not get the chips to give to the Lakers."
